1. Functional Description

E-Notebook 11.0 for ChemBioOffice 2008 provides a smooth interface designed to replace paper laboratory notebooks, with a fully configurable, secure system for organizing the flow of information generated by your organization. You can enter reactions, Microsoft Word documents, spectra and other types of data, and then search this data by text, substructure or meta-data. You can organize your electronic pages by projects, experiments or any other classification that conforms to your workflow.

These installation instructions cover the installation of the E-Notebook 11.0 application for a local area network.

2. E-Notebook Pre-requisites

2.1 System Requirements

*Note that the chemical structure index server computer may be the same as the database server computer.

2.2 Installing SQL Server 2005 Express on a Windows server machine

1. Login as an administrator

2. Copy the 'SQLInstaller' folder from the Installers folder on the top level of the cd-rom to the hard drive on the server.

3. Open a command prompt (Type 'cmd' in 'run.' from the Windows start menu)

4. Use the 'cd' (change directory) command to browse to the location of the 'SQLInstaller' folder
For example: cd C:\temp\SQLInstaller

5. Copy the text found below in between the two dashed (----) lines and paste it into the command line window. Do not copy the dashed lines themselves.

Note: Feel free to edit the parameters for instance name (CSSQL05) and Admin password (CambridgeSoft_SA ) if desired.

6. Press enter to start the SQL Server 2005 Express setup. SQL Server will get installed automatically. When the installation dialog disappears, the installation has completed successfully.

3.0 New multi-user database

The following multi-user installation scenario will allow you to install a new database on a remote server machine and connect to E-Notebook 11.0 from a client computer.

3.1 Server Installation

Before you begin, make sure that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Express) is installed on the server and that the user running the server installation is logged on to Windows with 'Admin' privileges.

	Installation Steps	Expected Results
1	Create a shared folder (with full control to all Windows users who will be accessing E-Notebook) on the server for storing E-Notebook mst files and service files. Go to the folder properties and click the 'Sharing' tab and add the users including the user performing the installation if not already listed. Note:* on Windows 2003 Server, the folder itself also needs full control permissions set for all users in addition to the share full control permissions.	A shared folder is created
2	Run the E-Notebook Server installer from \*Installers\Cambridgesoft\ENotebook\DatabaseServerSetup* and follow the onscreen installation instructions.	E-Notebook Server components are installed
3	Go to the 'Start Menu, All Programs, ChemBioOffice 2008, E-Notebook, Administrator Tools' and launch 'Restore Database'.	The Multi-User Database wizard opens
4	Click 'Next' on the Welcome screen.	The 'Multi-User Database Setup' screen appears
5	From the dropdown list, select the local SQL Server 2005 named instance you want to use for E-notebook. Press Next.	The 'Add New Login' dialog pops up.
6	Add at least one user to the SQL logins as that user will be the initial E-Notebook administrator that can later create other users. The password will be the same as the username and can later be changed from within E-notebook. Click 'Close'.	The 'Multi-User Database Setup' screen 2 appears
7	A) Provide a database name, example: "ENDesktop11" (preferable). B) Select from the 'map SQL logins' window the login name(s) for the user(s) who will be allowed to login to E-Notebook. Click 'Next'.	'Back-up File location' screen appears
8	Browse to 'C:\Program Files\CambridgeSoft\ChemOffice2008\ENotebook\Database\ChemOffice Ultra' and select 'ENDesktop11 backup.BAK'. Click 'Open', then Click 'Next'.	'Provide the location of a shared folder on the server machine' screen appears
9	Browse to the shared folder created in step 1 Click 'OK', then Click 'Next'.	'Ready to Restore Database' screen appears
10	Click 'Restore'.	It can take several minute to create a new database on your server system. If database is created successfully, you will be prompted with a 'Finish' screen
11	Click Finish.	Wizard closes
12	Make sure that the Fire Wall is disabled on the server machine or that it is configured to allow SQL Server traffic to go in and out of the computer.	Fire Wall disabled or setup properly
13	Proceed with client installation.

3.2 Client installation

	Installation Steps	Expected Results
1	Install E-Notebook 11.0 on a client computer using the ChemBioOffice CD-ROM.	ChemBioOffice 2008 with E-Notebook is installed
2	Go to " Start menu, All Programs, ChemBioOffice 2008, E-Notebook, Administrator Tools" and launch "Multi-User System Administration"	Multi-User setup wizard launches
3	Click 'Next' in the welcome screen	'Setup Tasks' screen appears
4	Select 'Connect to an existing service' Click 'Next'	'Service File Location' screen appears
5	Browse to the shared folder you created in 3.1, Step 1. Select the file with the file extension ".ensvc". Click 'Next'.	'Ready to create connection to service' screen appears.
6	Click 'Create'.	New database connection to remote server is created.
7	Click 'Finish' in the "Connection Completed" screen.	Wizard closes
8	Go to "Start menu, All Programs, ChemBioOffice 2008, E-Notebook" and launch "E-Notebook 11.0".	'CambridgeSoft E-Notebook-Login' dialog appears with a list of E-Notebook services
9	Select the remote service that was created in the previous section. The service name will likely include the word 'Multi' and has the name of the remote computer. For the login ID and password use one of the logins you created/selected in section 3.1 step 6/7 (The password will be the same as the login name). Click Connect.	E-Notebook will launch (Note: It can take several minute to launch E-Notebook 11.0 the first time)

Note: When you create a connection into a service, the information about the service is stored in the file ENClientConfig.xml within the 'CambridgeSoft\E-Notebook 11.0' folder within the Application Data folder for All Users*. In addition, two other files are copied into this folder. These two files are a server configuration file and a UDL (server connection) file.

*On Windows2000/XP the default is: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CambridgeSoft\ENotebook 11.0".

On Windows Vista the default is: "C:\ProgramData\CambridgeSoft\ENotebook 11.0".

4.0 Creating new user accounts for E-Notebook

	Installation Steps	Expected Results
1	Launch E-Notebook 11.0 on a system that has E-Notebook setup to connect to the (remote) database. On the login screen, select the multi-user service, type a login ID and password of an E-notebook Administrator and click the Connect button.
2	Go to the View menu and choose Go Up To Users.
3	Click on Users in the navigation tree on the left side of the screen that appears. From the File menu choose New User.
4	Type in a Login ID, a password and confirm the password. Select the 'Administrator' checkbox if you want this user to be an administrator. Note: Ensure that you also give this user the proper (modify) permissions to the shared folder with the structure index files (.mst files). These permissions are Windows permissions. Therefore they depend on the Windows login name. This login name can be different from the Notebook login ID.	Completing this step adds users to the E-Notebook database.

At this point, the database is set up to support multiple users. Any user that has been setup by an administrator to have access to E-Notebook can now launch E-Notebook on the client machine after connecting to the remote multi-user service.

Note: There is also a default E-notebook administrative user created. The loginID/password for this user is 'ELNAdmin/ELNAdmin'. To keep your notebook data secure, change the password for this account.

4.1 Changing the password for E-notebook users

	Steps	Expected Results
1	Launch E-Notebook 11.0 on a system that has E-Notebook setup to connect to the (remote) database. On the login screen, select the multi-user service, type a login ID and password of an E-notebook Administrator and click the Connect button.	Login to E-notebook was successful
2	Go to the View menu and choose: Go Up To -> Users.	All notebook users will be listed in the navigation tree on the left side of the screen
3	Select the users for which you would like to change or reset the password. From the File menu choose 'User info'.	The user properties dialog is shown
4	Type in a password and confirm the password.

Note: The same steps can be followed by E-Notebook users to change their own password
